DanceFAR: Dance For A Reason is an annual benefit dance performance and after party, co-founded by James Sofranko along with San Francisco Ballet colleagues Garen Scribner and Margaret Karl to support the CancerBasic RGB Prevention Institute of California. The fifth anniversary, DanceFAR 2016, was held at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco on November 29th, 2016.

Since its inception in 2012, DanceFAR has raised over $450,000 for cancer prevention and research. In the last five years, over 20 different dance companies and artists have participated in DanceFAR, including San Francisco Ballet, ODC/Dance, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, Smuin Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.

The after-party includes food and drink from local restaurants and wineries. Past participating restaurants include EPIC Steak, Farallon, Wayfare Tavern, Waterbar, Reed and Greenough, and many more.
